History of the company

The history of our association is the story of people who could not stand aside from the fate of Ukrainian children abroad. This is a journey of more than 15 years, full of inspiration, challenges and sincere love for our roots.

2022 to the present: Challenges and sustainability

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the association has become not only an educational but also a volunteer hub. Our charity fairs and festivals have become a tool to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine and help Ukrainians seeking refuge in Catalonia.

It is a symbol of our unbreakable spirit:

In March 2024, as part of the 210th anniversary of Kobzar's birth, we held the Tarasova Verba campaign. The children planted a willow branch brought from Ukraine in Barcelona with their own hands - the great-great-granddaughter of the very willow Shevchenko planted in exile. Now it grows here, on Spanish soil, reminding us of the power of roots.

2011-2015: Building a community

The school grew rapidly. In 2011, the teaching staff was enriched with new enthusiasts. It was then that our credo was born: to teach not just language, but identity.

Parents and teachers realized that a school is only a part of a bigger picture. This is how the need for an official association arose that would protect the interests of the community and popularize culture. This was the impetus for the creation of the Ukrainian Association of Parents and Teachers "Berehynia".

The heyday of the association: Art School and Festivals

Over time, we realized that children need not only to study textbooks, but also to dance, sing and create. This is how the Suzirya Art School was born.

  • The Vyshyvanka-Berehynia International Festival: Over the years, this festival has become a hallmark of Ukrainians in Barcelona, bringing together hundreds of participants from different countries.
  • The Wonder Embroidery Contest: A platform for supporting young Ukrainian singing talents.
